Rhododendron cumberlandense has been determined to be a diploid using flow cytometry by

University of Coimbra, Portugal.

Rhododendron cumberlandense was also determined to be a diploid using flow cytometry by Dr. Thomas Ranney, J.R. Jones, and Nathan Lynch.
