Rhodo Topics: RareFind Nursery & Moore State Park

Two rhododendron-related items for your consideration.
Firstly, a RareFind offer: Our RareFind Nursery order (to be distributed/sold at the Van Veen distribution) will be shipped to us during the week starting April 13. Hank Shannon, proprietor of RareFind has offered a meal out with him and on him to anyone who would be willing to pick up the order and deliver it to us in Mass. RareFind is in New Jersey. Delivery must be by April 17 at the latest, as Saturday, April 18 is the distribution day.
To sweeten the pot, I will offer free 1 gallon sized plants or equivalent to anyone who is willing to do so. The order is about 100 1-gallon sized plants. I'm told they will fit into a station wagon, SUV, Minivan or the like.

This second item is a message I'm passing on at the request of one of our members. It might be of particular interest to Chapter members living in central Worcester County:

Moore State Park in Paxton http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/central/more.htm suffered incredible ice damage during the storm this year. According to Paul Rogers, Moore is home to the largest collection of Rhododendrons in New England.

My colleague Chris King of Ideal Landscape has been working with the curator there to set up a community effort to clean up the park. We are looking for individuals who have some knowledge of pruning to help supervise and/or clean up on April 4, from 8AM-3PM, which is a week from Saturday. If we can't get the numbers for that day, an alternative date would be April 25. People should bring gloves and pruning equipment.

If anyone would like more information, they can reach Chris at his email: kingilm@charter.net, or you can email me at drudek@townisp.com. It would be extremely helpful to us to know who is committed to coming out that day, so that we can adequately plan to have the right resources there (food and drink, trucks, chippers, etc.).
